Students who attend our Feeder Schools are directly accepted into New Town High School. The schools are Bowen Road Primary, Campbell Street Primary, Goulburn Street Primary, Lansdowne Crescent Primary, Lenah Valley Primary, Moonah Primary, Mount Stuart Primary and New Town Primary.
Prefects and Grade 7 Ambassadors visit each of these schools in April/May and hand out information packages inviting parents to a Parent Information Evening.
We ask that enrolment forms are returned to the school no later than the end of term two.
Out of Area
The current Education Act states that “if seeking enrolment from out-of-area parents MUST complete an Expression of Interest form and provide the evidence required”. We can accept Expressions of Interest no earlier than 12 months before the intended starting date. The form is available here or at the school office.
Parents who have lodged an Expression of Interest will receive a letter in April/May inviting you and your son to a Parent Information Evening.
Please note: Feeder school students have priority for enrolment and depending on how many spaces are available after this are the number of Out of Area enrolments we are able to accept. Parents will be notified of their acceptance/non acceptance by the end of term three.
Government Education & Training International
New Town High School welcomes international students from Asia and Europe to develop their English skills through speaking, reading and writing. This program provides community awareness of cultural diversity within the Tasmanian population.
Whilst at New Town High School students will be actively involved in Tasmanian school life by studying the Australian Curriculum, studying option subjects offered at New Town High, being involved in extra-curricular activities and through sport.
International students in from grade 7 – 10, are assisted with fluency and understanding of English with assistance from teacher aide support through our newly introduced language extension program.
Students are supported with an International student advisor at New Town High.
Their roles and responsibilities include:
• Pastoral Care support
• English speaking expansion
• Academic Support
You can be certain that your son will be provided with pastoral care at school and with host stay family. Visiting students will be involved in cultural awareness and host stay functions, excursions and also by exploring Tasmanian culture.
